Team CERN Baltic Group resources have been combined by the HPC Centre of Riga Technical University, the Institute of Numerical Modelling of the University of Latvia, the National Library of Latvia, Vilnius University, Kaunas Technical University, Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre and DATI Group SIA. At the time of writing, Team CERN Baltic Group is ranked 492nd.
At the beginning of this year, Riga Technical University and the University of Latvia, in cooperation with DATI Group LLC, implemented a pilot project for a high-performance computing (HPC) resource cloud for the computing tasks of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CERN Baltic Group followed CERN's initiative to dedicate its HPC computing resources to the fight against COVID-19 by mathematically modelling protein-amino acid interaction simulations within the Folding@Home distributed computing initiative. The findings should lead to faster development of a vaccine against COVID-19.
You can find out more about this initiative in an interview presented by scientists from RTU and LU Latvian Radio 1!
