Within the framework of the ATVASE project, a seminar and a meeting of the JIV-ERIC board took place

On April 28, 2021, the project No. 1.1.1.5/18/I/009 “Support for Preparation of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences International Cooperation Projects in Research and Innovations (ATVASE)” seminar and JIV-ERIC National Consortium board meeting took place.

Representatives of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre (VIRAC), Riga Technical University (RTU) and University of Latvia (UL) participated in the seminar.


At the JIV-ERIC consortium board meeting, VIRAC director Aleksejs Klokovs spoke about the working progress of the ATVASE project, as well as about the problems and obstacles caused by the virus pandemic. A. Klokovs also spoke about the news in the consortium, as well as that several new activities are planned in connection with the Space Agency.


Part of the seminar was opened by VIRAC researcher Vladislavs Bezrukovs, who presented the 2021 VIRAC radio astronomical observations. Boriss Rjabovs, the leading researcher of the VIRAC, presented the magnetic field radio measurements in the open structures of the stellar corona. The representative of the University of Latvia Ilgmārs Eglītis also took part in the seminar, who spoke about the current research at Baldone Astrophysical Observatory 2020-2025. RTU representative Jurģis Poriņš in his presentation spoke about current research in the field of optical frequency combs. At the end of the seminar, Jānis Kaminskis, a representative of RTU, participated with a presentation of Geo-VLBI and the role of the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) in the view of the Nordic Geodetic Commission (NKG).


Given the situation in the country due to Covid-19, the seminar and board meeting took place remotely on an online platform that could be accessed by anyone interested.

The total cost of the project “Support for Preparation of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences International Cooperation Projects in Research and Innovations (ATVASE)” (project No. 1.1.1.5/18/I/009) is 262 751.76 euros and the planned amount of the European Regional Development Fund is 85.00 % of eligible expenses – 223 339.00 euros, and the amount of state funding is 15% of eligible expenses – 39 412.76 euros.
